This is a reproduction WW2 German Army Officer Schirmmutzen Visor Cap in field grey wool with white piping, dark green velvet band, black peak and complete with cap cord, metal cap eagle and oak leaf wreath and cockade insignia.
Visor caps were standard for all personnel during the Third Reich and regulations dictated the dress they were to be worn with based on the individuals rank.
Originally the insignia worn on the visor caps consisted of the Weimar pattern oak-leaf wreath and cockade and a blackened leather chinstrap for all ranks. In 1927 new chin cords for Officer ranks were introduced with silver cords for the ranks of Leutnant to Oberst and gilt cords for the ranks of Generalmajor to Generalfeldmarschall.
On March 1935 a more detailed pattern wreath and cockade and a second, larger pattern national eagle were brought in for wear and in 1935 they altered the field-grey colored centerband to a dark blue/green coloration which was then standard until the end of the war.
The different branches of service within the army were allocated a specific waffenfarbe colour with white being chosen for infantry personnel which was displayed as piping on the visor cap for EM/NCO’s and Company and Field grade officers.
Please note: We can have all visor caps made to order with any piping colour required. If you do require this cap with a different colour piping, Let Us Know!
